Use the social media fad to generate buzz & presale tickets in 6 quick steps

Millions of people are using social media. Spending a few minutes a day on social media can help generate buzz about your upcoming event.

Millions of people are using social media. Spending a few minutes a day on social media can help generate buzz about your upcoming event.

Social media might just seem like the latest fad, but it’s taken the world by storm. Everyone is using it and it’s now the easiest way to reach people online. It might not be your idea of fun, but there are now more people Facebooking than there are people in America and you need to reach them on their terms. So it’s time to drink the Kool-Aid and use social media to promote your upcoming event. And there’s good news: social media sites really aren’t hard to use.

Spending a just few minutes a day on social media sites could mean the difference between a packed house and an empty room at your next event. Here are six easy steps to generate buzz and presale tickets using social media for your next event:

  1. Create Twitter and Facebook pages for your event. Both sites are free to use and signing up only takes a few minutes.  Research local users on Twitter and fans on Facebook and recruit them to spread the word about your event in the months, weeks and days leading up to the event. The earlier you start using it, the more time you’ll have to generate a buzz.
  2. Announce all important details about your event.  Inform your followers about all major event announcements. This includes keynote speaker announcements, press coverage, event venue or time changes, number of tickets left, etc.: anything that might interest potential bloggers, tweeters and event goers.
  3. Ask for your followers input. Interact with your potential attendees throughout the event planning process. What topics should be discussed? What are they anticipating about the event? What do they hope to learn? Asking questions will generate new ideas and help spread the word about the event.
  4. Reward your social media followers. Offer incentives to your followers, such as ticket discounts. Post online discount codes for your event’s tickets and, chances are, they will spread the word and let others know about special pricing to help you sell more tickets. You can also ask your followers to ‘retweet’ or repost your announcements. Compelling or rewarding posts have a better chance of getting reposted.
  5. Consolidate your social networking. Programs such as TweetDeck make intensive Twitter updates a breeze, with lightning-fast URL shortening and picture uploading. You can save time by linking your Facebook page to Twitter so your tweets appear on both sites, as well sending on-the-go marketing blasts through your cell phone.
  6. Post regularly. You’ve got to stay as enthusiastic about your event as you want your customers to be, so daily posts are a must. Just devote five minutes each day to social media to keep building buzz about your event.

Stories from Sell Outs: Wizard World increases online sales by 40%

Wizard World Entertainment

Wizard World, a multi-city touring comic convention, reached out to TicketLeap for assistance with resolving their online and onsite ticketing difficulties, increasing their visibility and growing their overall sales. Thanks in part to TicketLeap’s innovative ticketing technology, Wizard World beat the previous year’s online sales by 40%, saved thousands of man-hours and was able to focus on their area of expertise, creating an amazing comic convention. TicketLeap was able to increase sales during a recession due to their immediate identification and resolution of Wizard World’s paint points. Their major challenges included, the frustrations with selling tickets online and onsite, failure to track sales and the inability to capture any valuable attendee information.

“TicketLeap saved us thousands of dollars in man-hours – especially when you factor in customer service, printing, packing, shipping fees, etc. It takes the mess out of fulfilling all our ticket sales. It goes beyond a cost savings, too, as it saves you an incredible amount of headache and does not drain our limited resources.”

Stephen Shamus, Wizard World Chief Marketing Officer

Check out the touch screen kiosks from Wizard World in action.

Challenge: Concerned by their inability to see or track online sales and attendance by not using a true online event registration system.

Solution: TicketLeap’s ticketing technology gave Wizard World the ability to not only track sales in real time, but to also have access to an up-to-date, accurate count of expected attendance before each event.

Challenge: Frustrated by the wasted costs and resources spent preparing paper ticketing packages (stuffing envelopes, etc).

Solution: TicketLeap built a custom, online ticketing system that allowed patrons to purchase and print their tickets online, preventing Wizard World from wasting any man-hours spent fulfilling online ticketing orders.

Challenge: Inundated with countless phone calls from patrons with online ticketing issues, and overwhelmed by time spent troubleshooting onsite ticketing technology.

Solution: TicketLeap took full control of all patron phone calls with their customer service team, and also provided training and support for Wizard World’s onsite ticketing staff prior to the event.

Challenge: Troubled by the chaotic onsite check-in process of advanced online orders.

Solution: TicketLeap Anywhere box office software check-in stations provided staff with multiple check-in options (name, confirmation number, scannable barcode on printed ticket), ultimately making them more efficient and accelerating lines.

Challenge: Overwhelmed by influx of walk-up customers on day of event.

Solution: TicketLeap’s simple, self-serve touch screen Kiosks gave patrons the opportunity to purchase tickets with a swipe of credit card or by handing cash to ticketing attendants, ultimately reducing ticketing staff, faster lines and increasing sales.

Challenge: Unsure of how to get in touch with patrons after the event and gather feedback.

Solution: TicketLeap built online and onsite registration forms that captured valuable information about patrons, such as their email addresses.

Challenge: Confused with and frustrated by using multiple systems to process tickets and track sales, which forced Wizard World to deal with these logistics rather than focus on creating an amazing convention.

Solution: TicketLeap created an all-encompassing system that let Wizard World track online and onsite registration and sales in real-time, while also analyzing revenue via end-of-event sales reports.

Results:

  • Increased online ticket sales by 40%.
  • Saved thousands of man-hours previously used toward preparing ticket packages, resolving ticketing issues and setting up onsite ticketing technology.
  • Captured emails during purchasing process to add to their database (61% of credit transactions & 12% of cash transactions).

Additional Benefits:

During next year’s tour TicketLeap will:

  • Offer pre-selling of event tickets and vendor related merchandise onsite, online and at remote vendor locations (i.e. comic stores).
  • Handle vendor registration, which will save Wizard World a significant amount of time and resources.

How To Make A Killing This Year: Haunt ticketing secrets revealed

We recently wrote an article for HauntWorld Magazine, the haunt industry’s leading publication. Our haunt specialist, Frog Zombie, shared 7 secrets for shorter lines and smoother sales this season. Check out the article below.

How to Make a Killing this Year
Seven insider secrets for shorter lines and smoother sales

HauntWorld Magazine, Issue 22

As the haunting season is quickly approaching, how can you ensure that you will have better sales than last year? The way you handle your ticketing can make the difference between more money and—as my favorite MC once said—more problems.

Even successful haunts can lose money by making it too hard for patrons to buy tickets. Common mistakes include slow moving lines, inconvenient payment options and lost sales opportunities on the web.

So how can you sell many more tickets—and maximize exposure for your haunt—without breaking the bank? Here are some insider secrets from some of the country’s top haunts.

1. Keep lines moving as quickly as possible. Long lines can be scarier than your haunt. Do everything you can to keep your visible lines as short and fast as possible.

“Visibly long lines will kill your attendance numbers,” says Patti Ludwinski of Halloween Productions, Inc. Ludwinski manages the ticket booths at both The Darkness Haunted House and Creepyworld Haunted Screampark in St. Louis, MO.

2. Make the shortest line – your ticket line – the one that’s visible outside the haunt. Separate your ticket and entrance lines, so extra long lines don’t scare potential customers away. First, position the ticket line as the visible line outside the haunt. Once tickets are purchased, direct customers to a separate “hidden” entrance line.

“At The Darkness, our ticket line is unfortunately very visible from the street.  So it’s critical to have the ticket lines appear short,” says Ludwinski.  “Having several ticket sellers (four or more on busy nights) and/or having a fast, efficient ticket system helps with that.”

“The actual queue line into the attraction is separate, and we hide that line as best we can.  This is very crucial to having high attendance numbers each year,” Ludwinski adds.

3. Sell Tickets Online. One of the easiest and fastest ways to increase attendance is to sell tickets online. With the help of an online ticketing company, adding ticket sales to your website or creating an event website only takes minutes.

4. Instant Credit Card Processing. Accepting credit cards can increase ticket sales by 18%. Also, web-based ticket systems can approve credit cards much faster than traditional credit card swipes, getting your patrons in the door quickly.

5. Real-Time Ticket Tracking. Ticket tracking software allows you to track and manage every dollar the instant a sale is made. Every dime will make it home so there is no more worrying about your profits.

6. Barcode scanning.  Scanning tickets is an easy way to manage who’s in and who’s out of your haunt. No one will be sneaking into your event – and scanning decreases the entrance line.

7. Custom Ticket Designs.  Take your haunt to the next level by creating custom ticket designs branded like your haunt. You can match your tickets’ look with that of your promotional materials and other haunted themes, so your patrons will instantly recognize your event with one quick glance.

The right ticketing partner can make all of this very easy. Be sure to work with that partner to find the right sized solution for your haunt – not every haunt needs it all.

So what are you waiting for? Start checking these off your list and go make a killing this year!
